- 4 cups whole milk
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/3 cup cornstarch
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 4 large egg yolks
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 24 vanilla wafers
- 4 ripe bananas
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
- In a saucepan, combine milk, sugar, cornstarch, and salt over medium heat. Stir continuously until thickened.
- In a separate bowl, whisk egg yolks. Gradually add some of the hot milk mixture to egg yolks, whisking constantly.
- Pour the egg mixture back into the saucepan and cook for another 2-3 minutes, stirring constantly.
- Remove from heat and stir in vanilla and butter. Allow the mixture to cool slightly.
- Layer vanilla wafers, sliced bananas, and the pudding in a dish. Repeat the layers.
- For the topping, whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar until stiff peaks form. Spread over the top layer of pudding.
- Refrigerate for at least 4 hours before serving.
